Resource Development Leadership Giving – Summer Intern


United Way of Dane County is creating measurable results for health and human service issues in Dane County.  We are ending family homelessness, ensuring academic achievement among youth, helping seniors remain independent in homes of their choosing, and so much more. We seek a motivated, detail-oriented self-starter with an interest in non-profit fundraising who can fill an integral role in our Resource Development department. This is an unpaid position. We are located at 2059 Atwood Avenue on the near east side of Madison on the bus line.
Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research on current and potential leadership donors by reviewing local and national news and business publications.
  • Contact local businesses to get a sense of their charitable plans.
  • Provide support for volunteer training sessions and leadership giving events as needed, including materials assembly.
  • Update donor information in the organizational database.
  • Develop content for electronic, departmental and donor communications.
  • Assist in the production of large-scale mailing projects.
  • Safeguard the confidentiality of donor information at all times.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
Commitment:

General Responsibilities:
Assist with tasks in Community Relations Department at Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center.  This department houses community events (approximately 100 per year), tours/educational outreach programs, and all public relations and social media activities for the facility.

Wisconsin Historical Museum: Marketing Social Media Job Description

We are seeking a Social Media intern. The job requires 10-12 hours weekly.

We are looking for an intern to assist primarily with our social media marketing efforts. You may occasionally be asked to assist with other marketing duties. You will learn the ins and outs of social media marketing and will be a productive part of our overall marketing efforts.
Interns are expected to have experience with social media on (at least) a personal level (use on a business, non-profit or organizational level preferred). You must be able to think strategically and work within our marketing calendar, strategy and brand, not just “promoting” to our customers, but engaging with our visitors and building long-lasting relationships by providing value to them. You must be able to measure and document the impact of social media, and then suggest action-steps to increase impact.

Make-A-Wish Wisconsin
Madison Regional Office Internship • Summer/Fall 2014

POSITION SUMMARY: Supports the Regional Director and Coordinator with planning, promoting and executing a variety of fundraising events. Assists with volunteer coordination and wish planning activities. Performs general office duties.

PRIMARY GOALS:
• Develops a broad understanding of nonprofit operations.
• Gains real-life experience in special event administration, development and communications.
• Creates a lasting connection between the Make-A-Wish® mission and future experiences.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Supports Kids for Wish Kids® program and assists with external fundraising events.
• Fosters volunteerism and fundraising by UW-Madison student groups.
• Performs a variety of general office tasks and assists with the wish coordination process.
• Represents Make-A-Wish® Wisconsin at events, promotions and speaking engagements as appropriate.
• Conducts internet research and other inquiries to help identify new fundraising opportunities.
• Gains familiarity with Raiser's Edge donor database; performs occasional data entry and search functions.
• Assists with writing, editing and distributing press releases, website postings and newsletter articles.
• Contacts wish families about various wish enhancements and speaking opportunities.
• Schedules volunteers for events, promotions and presentations.
• Aids in the recognition and stewardship of sponsors and donors.
• Assists with planning of Walk & Run for Wishes held September 14, 2014:
• Solicits and secures in-kind donations; requests/compares bids and schedules vendors.
• Creates and administers various aspects of communication strategy.
• Contacts and schedules volunteers for various duties.
•Promotes growth in team participation and encourages team fundraising initiatives.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Sophomore standing or higher; currently enrolled in a college or university pursuing a degree in Marketing, Nonprofit Management/Leadership, Public Relations, Communications or related field with a minimum GPA of 3.00/4.00.
2. Organized, detailed-oriented, capable of managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.
3. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
4. Outgoing and able to build rapport with diverse populations.
5. Previous experience with special events and history of volunteerism preferred.
6. Solid experience in Microsoft Office Suite.
7. Access to an automobile essential.
8. Familiarity with the greater Madison area beneficial.

TIME REQUIREMENTS:
1. Student must be able to work a consistent schedule during normal office hours (9:00am to 5:30pm). A minimum of 10-15 hours per week for a duration of 10 weeks (or more) is required. Student and Regional Director will work together to determine hours.
2. The number of hours per week will vary due to event requirements and the amount of responsibility assumed.
3. The duration of the internship is negotiable. Ideal candidates will be available May 27 to September 26; extension through late December is desirable.
4. Attendance at evening and weekend meetings and events may be necessary.

COMPENSATION:
1. This is a volunteer position. To enable the receipt of college credits, Make-A-Wish Wisconsin will work with you to meet your school’s requirements.
2. A stipend will be paid upon the satisfactory completion of the internship and will be based on the number of hours completed. A minimum of 100 hours is required to earn a $500 stipend.
3. All work-related expenses incurred will be reimbursed.

Submission deadline is April 6, 2014. No phone calls please. In-person interviews will take place at the Madison Regional Office the weeks of April 7 & April 14, and a final decision will be made by April 23. The chosen candidate will undergo a background check, complete a volunteer application and sign a conflict of interest and ethics statement.
