Wisconsin Historical Museum: Marketing Social Media Job Description
We are seeking a Social Media intern. The job requires 10-12 hours weekly.
We are looking for an intern to assist primarily with our social media marketing efforts. You may occasionally be asked to assist with other marketing duties. You will learn the ins and outs of social media marketing and will be a productive part of our overall marketing efforts.
Interns are expected to have experience with social media on (at least) a personal level (use on a business, non-profit or organizational level preferred). You must be able to think strategically and work within our marketing calendar, strategy and brand, not just “promoting” to our customers, but engaging with our visitors and building long-lasting relationships by providing value to them. You must be able to measure and document the impact of social media, and then suggest action-steps to increase impact.
This internship is unpaid.
Assistant will perform the following tasks:
- Write, design, schedule posts and post to our social channels: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterst, YouTube.
- Upload videos, photo albums, etc.
- Reply to comments, messages, etc.
- Communicate using tone and style consistent with WHM branding
- Find users to follow/friend/like us
- Track and report the growth and the impact of social media on attendance
- Maintain and update our social media engagement plans and lists.
- Assist on other marketing tasks when needed
Desired skills and attributes:
- Excellent written and verbal communication, strong editing skills
- Be creative with an eye for design.
- Ability to work within marketing schedules and plans.
- Knowledge of digital media software and tools – Photoshop and Hootsuite preferred
- Minor video editing skills are a plus.
- Ability to explore and recommend web channels for future development: Knowledge of LinkedIn, blogs, Trip advisor, Yelp etc.helpful
- Thoughtfulness, with a desire to come up with fresh ideas on how to increase our online presence.
- Ability to identify with our target markets and “speak” to that audience.
- Ability to work independently and under supervision.
- Love for history.
- Flexibility and sense of humor appreciated.

About the Wisconsin Historical Museum
The Wisconsin Historical Museum is located at 30 N. Carroll St. on Madison’s Capitol Square and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Museum features four floors of exhibition space, programs and events for all ages, and a unique museum store.
