Multimedia Consultant, Student Employment

  • Must be a student at UW-Madison or MATC (undergraduate or graduate student)
  • Must be available for 3–4 shifts per week for a minimum of 10-15 hours of work per week.
    • The Digital Media Center is open from 8:30am - 6:30pm Monday through Thursday and 8:30am - 5:00 pm on Friday. We are open during summer and winter breaks from 8:30am-5pm Monday through Friday. Opening shifts start 15 minutes before the facility opens. Closing shifts end 30 minutes after the facility closes.
  • This position provides support for UW-Madison faculty, staff and graduate student’s use of technology in teaching and research.

Positions Responsibilities

  • Assisting UW faculty and staff with graphic editing, video,multimedia and web projects - scanning graphics, creating graphics, capturing and editing digital video, writing CDs, authoring DVDs, creating web pages for web courseware (Learn@UW), and other instructional technologies faculty and staff may need assistance with
  • Preparing the design lab and classroom for the day’s appointments
  • Answering the phone and scheduling appointments
  • Checking out equipment for loan
  • Troubleshooting hardware and software problems
  • Working on projects internal to the department

Candidate Qualifications

  • Have depth of knowledge in at least one of these tools: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Final Cut Pro, iMovie, iDVD, DVD Studio Pro, Vegas, 3D Studio Max, Maya, After Effects, Premiere, Encore, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash
  • A willingness and openess to being in an environment of constant learning and skill expansion.
  • A high level of professionalism and respect for coworkers
  • Customer service skills
  • A positive attitude, ability to communicate effectively with faculty and staff who use our facility and services
  • Be thorough in taking appointments over the phone and handling schedules.
  • Have a working knowledge of Mac OS X and/or Windows 7 and a willingness to learn whichever OS you may not be familiar with
  • Have basic troubleshooting capability for hardware and software problems
  • Work independently and proactively on projects that will increase your depth of your knowledge and value of services in Digital Media Center when not working on assigned projects or with customers
