Vice President of the Wisconsin Union – Public Relations 2014 – 2015


The Vice President for Public Relations is responsible for educating the campus community about Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) which is comprised of Officers, Directors/Hoofer President, Summer Coordinators, Associate Directors and committee members. Recruitment and student outreach, including coordinating committees with different student organization fairs, are large responsibilities for this position. The VP for Public Relations develops overall marketing and promotional plans to assist in WUD-wide activities and overall WUD recruitment. Additionally, this position coordinates the selection process for all Directorate leadership positions while working in partnership with the Leadership Program Director. Along with the other Officers, the Vice President for Public Relations serves as a liaison between Directorate and the rest of the Wisconsin Union and serves on Union Council, the governing board of the Wisconsin Union.
Duties to Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD)
  1. Chair Directorate and Directorate Executive meeting in the absence of the President.
  2. Work with Program Staff to plan Fall Retreat.
  3. Develop implementation plans for achieving WUD goals.
  4. Actively pursue all forms of diversity and integrity within Directorate programs and committees.
  5. Participate in spring, summer and fall trainings. Plan and implement such trainings when applicable.
  6. Guide and set directions for Directorate through developing a process for formulating goals and strategies, especially in respect to campus diversity.
  7. Direct and supervise the WUD Visual Media Manager (VMM) and meet with him/her regularly.
Duties to Union Council
  • Coordinate & chair a Union Council Subcommittee.
  • Serve on the Council Executive Committee.
  • Uphold the Wisconsin Union Constitution and participate in the review and implementation of Union policy.
  • Actively promote shared governance and encourage committee awareness of issues which affect student life.
  • Serve as a Trustee in Memorial Union Building Association (MUBA), Union’s non-profit educational organization.
  • Manage Union Council’s online presence on the WUD website.
  • Communicate decisions of Union Council to local media as needed and requested.
Specific Public Relations Duties
  • Develop & maintain a cohesive outreach, recruitment, and marketing strategy for Directorate as a whole as well as the individual committees.
  • Develop, coordinate, & promote selection process of officers, directors and summer coordinators for the following year.
  • Monitor committee membership, coordinate and report on recruitment initiatives related to the Wisconsin Union Antaramian Fund.
  • Coordinate WUD recruitment calendar including marketing presentations and tabling at student organization fairs, housing, Bash, and MCOR.
  • Oversee the training and activities of people marketing WUD at SOAR
  • Put together Fall and Spring WUD marketing materials.
  • Liaison between WUD and the Center for Leadership and Involvement.
  • Direct and manage WUD’s online presence, including but not limited to social media and the WUD website.
  • Serve on the MCOR committee over the summer period, and find a replacement if unable to discharge this duty.
  • Actively outreach to other UW-Madison student organizations to identify opportunities for collaboration.
  • Educate outside student organizations on collaboration opportunities with Directorate.
  • Act as a liaison between WUD and Wisconsin Union Marketing, communicating ways in which WUD can utilize their services most effectively.

2014 Summer Internships with Madison Parks


The City of Madison Parks Division manages 260 parks and over 6000 acres of land and includes various departments including: recreation services, maintenance, four golf courses, Olbrich Botanical Gardens, Warner Park Community Recreation Center, Goodman Pool, facilities, conservation, forestry, cemetery, planning, and administrative staff.

The Parks Division is currently recruiting 2014 summer semester interns in various departments.
Special Events Intern: The intern will assist in planning and coordination of various special events and programs.
Volunteer Management Intern: The intern will assist with developing a comprehensive Parks volunteer program including recruitment, coordinating volunteer days, and gain overall understanding of volunteer management.
Marketing/Graphic Design Intern: Assisting with development of media and marketing plans of the Madison Parks Division including designing logos, brochures, and promotional material.
Communications InternThis intern will assist with drafting press releases, writing web content, researching and writing articles.
This internship can run 6-12 weeks during the semester. Intern hours can range from 10-35 hours per week, but the internship may not exceed a total of 240 total hours for the whole internship. Interns will be compensated at a rate of $500/per 80 hours work or per credit earned. The duration of the internship can be determined with the intern. Hours are flexible, but most will occur between 8:00am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday, although some weekend and evening hours will be required.

WCCN Online Presence – Management Intern


The WCCN Online Presence Management Intern helps to further the mission of WCCN by providing high quality support in to WCCN staff in increasing WCCN’s online presence and the effectiveness of its marketing outreach efforts.
Primary Responsibilities: Social Media Management

Media Relations Intern at the Wisconsin Center for Music Education


Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA) is a service organization with more than 1,000 member public and private schools. Each year, more than 100,000 students participate in over 220,000 events for WSMA activities, including District and State Music Festivals, State Honors Music Project, Launchpad, Student Composition Project, State Marching Band Championships and Concert Festivals. WSMA is headquartered in the Wisconsin Center for Music Education, first of its kind in the nation, which also serves as state headquarters for its partners – Wisconsin Foundation for School Music (WFSM – the fundraising arm of WSMA) and Wisconsin Music Educators Association (WMEA – the state association for professional music educators).

WSMA is currently seeking a Media Relations Intern. This is a paid ($2,000 stipend) part-time internship (10-15 hours per week) reporting to the Director of Communications and will assist with media relations and media production coordination at the Wisconsin Center for Music Education, including public relations for Launchpad – a statewide music competition for high school students in bands formed outside of school, and other programs. 2014 PRSSA Daniel J. Edelman & Ruth Edelman Internship Awards


Purpose
The Daniel J. Edelman/PRSSA Award, named for the chairman and founder of Edelman, has been presented annually since 1990 to PRSSA student members who have demonstrated exceptional leadership ability, a commitment to a career in the field and have contributed substantially to PRSSA.
The Ruth Edelman/PRSSA award, named in memory of Deputy Chairman Ruth Edelman, will be awarded in partnership with Edelman’s Global Women’s Executive Network (GWEN) to recognize student members who have demonstrated achievement in women’s leadership, women’s studies and/or contributions in the field to promote women’s issues.
Awards
  •  $1,500 cash award for both the Daniel J. Edelman Award and Ruth Edelman Award ($1,000 upon winning award and an additional $500 upon start date of internship) 
  •  3-month paid internship in one of Edelman’s U.S. offices for each award. (To be determined by Edelman and Winner) 
  • Judging Criteria

Event Intern - Henry Vilas Zoo



Position title: Event Intern 

Reports to: Special Event Coordinator 

Work times: Variable (8-20 hours/week) 

Overview of position: Work closely with the Special Events Coordinator to assist with various fundraising events, handle all tent and Anna Vilas Hall rentals, and assist staff members with small office projects. 

Responsibilities May Include: 
-  Process all tent rental and Anna Vilas Hall rental paperwork. 
- Be the point person for all rentals between April and November 
- Update rental policies and procedures and other forms 
- Act as the liaison between renters and Zoo staff if/as needed 
- Assist the Special Events Coordinator with projects related to the Zoo’s premier fundraising events and corporate night events 
- Enter Zoo Run participant mail-in registrations and other data entry 
-  Update the Zoo’s website with current event details 
- Post event related posts on the Zoo’s Facebook page 
-  Assist with other office projects as needed

CBS Sports 2014 Summer Internship Program

Corporate Communications and Investor Relations Internship


The primary role of W. W. Grainger’s Corporate Communications Internship is to support the Corporate Communications and Investor Relations team in building and executing strategies to protect and enhance company reputation with key internal and external stakeholders. Depending on the scope of specific summer projects, an intern will have the opportunity to learn about and support the various functions across the department such as Media Relations, Social Media, International Communications, Public Affairs, Internal Communications, Investor Relations, Government Affairs, and Business Communications, offering the ability to work cross-functionally with other areas of the business such as eCommerce, Supply Chain, Sales, and Customer Service.

This student assistant marketing position will be responsible for writing and editing projects in the Marketing and Communications unit within the Division of Continuing Studies.   • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently on multiple tasks
  • Familiarity with social media (Facebook, Blogging, Twitter, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite is preferred
  • Knowledge of WordPress and/or HTML is a plus
  • Basic graphic design skills is a plus
This position is a student hourly position, which offers flexible hours and a friendly, independent work environment. The position pays $8.50 per hour.
