DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: Wisconsin AHEC system; statewide program office is located the 4th floor of the Health Sciences Learning Center, 750 Highland Ave. Conveniently located on UW-Madison campus.
COMPENSATION: $9.50/hour
DATES OF EMPLOYMENT: Beginning in March/April 2014 to continue through 2014-15 academic year. Hours are offered during academic breaks (winter, spring, summer), negotiable based on employee interest.
HOURS OF WORK:
- Part-time 10-15 hours/week.
- Schedule is flexible based on student availability. Some work must be completed during business hours.
- Some evening and weekend hours may be required for project work such as special events.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with staff to develop creative approaches for communications, outreach strategies and social media campaigns to effectively reach many different audiences (college students at all public and private campuses in Wisconsin; high school and middle school students; health professionals; underserved populations; rural communities; etc.).
- Independently produce professional-quality graphic design files for print and digital communications.
- Assist with website maintenance.
- Perform administrative services, such as word processing, proofreading, fact checking, preparing packets for distribution, and other clerical help.
- Write content including feature articles, video scripts, blog posts, news releases, and correspondence published on institutional Facebook pages.
- Occasional project work related to planning and staffing special events.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess excellent communication skills, especially writing and proofreading.
- Familiarity with principles of marketing, public relations, and community engagement.
- Working knowledge of social determinants of health and current approaches in public health.
- Hands-on experience using graphic design software (preferably Adobe InDesign and Illustrator); Microsoft Office (particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); and Drupal or another web CMS.
- Experience using social media web sites.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently within deadlines.
- Enthusiasm for outreach to medically underserved and rural populations.
- Enthusiasm for the benefits of higher education and lifelong learning.
