The American Legislative and Issue Campaign Exchange (ALICE) is seeking smart and highly motivated students to work with us spring semester. ALICE is a new project that provides a one-stop, web-based library of progressive model law on a wide range of issues in state, county, and municipal policy. This library, and more information on the project, is available at www.alicelaw.org. The laws in our library promote social inclusion and economic fairness, environmental sustainability, and capable and efficient democratic government. ALICE is based at COWS which is located on the campus of the University of Wisconsin.
We’re looking for graduate or professional students willing to work for $10-$12 an hour, for 10-20 hours a week. Working under the direction of senior ALICE staff, your principal duties would be to help us:
- Identify and summarize progressive state and municipal law
- Work with current ALICE partners, including law professors, other policy experts, and students, to generate and review ALICE model laws
- Assist in the management and development of our library and outreach databases, as well as the ALICE website
Requirements of applicants:
Excel and Word proficiency; good writing and verbal communication skills; ability to quickly produce concise and accurate summaries
Desired skills:
- Knowledge of state and local government functions and processes, specifically with state and local legislation
- Experience researching and summarizing policy issues and evaluating policy choices
- Experience posting, updating, and removing website content
