This part-time position works in the University Relations office for the University of Wisconsin Colleges and the University of Wisconsin-Extension, based in Madison, WI. The UW Colleges and the UW-Extension are two statewide institutions led by a single chancellor.
Duties
1. Videos:
a. Shoot, edit and create videos for websites and social media. Possible topics include:
· UWC and UWEX leadership in the office and on visits
· Faculty/staff experts on campuses and on location, possibly outside
Madison although overnight travel would not be required
· Student experiences
· Intern’s own ideas
b. Create finished videos, including music, narrative, titles and transitions
c. Possibly produce podcasts
2. Social Media:
1. Contribute to UW Colleges and UW-Extension social media accounts regularly and strategically in a manner that adheres to the brand guidelines and considers audience
2. Research social media best practices, and suggest changes as necessary
a. Suggest or investigate ways to increase followers/friends
b. Suggest ways to increase engagement
3. Emerging technologies/software: Research and share information with staff about emerging technologies and software with which intern is familiar
4. Manage and organize Flickr account to improve access and searchabilty
5. Manage and organize Engaging Wisconsin web page for search engine optimization (SEO)
6. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
1. Familiarity with video editing software such as iMovie, YouTube editing, Microsoft Movie Maker or similar or aptitude to learn.
2. Technical familiarity with social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, LinkedIn, Flickr, including the ability to set and change administrators, change the appearance of pages, set privacy, add or delete apps, etc.
3. Enthusiasm for social media, video, photography.
4. Familiarity with Google Analytics or aptitude to learn.
5. Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
6. Good organizational skills.
7. Valid driver’s license. Ability to be approved to drive state cars.
8. Currently enrolled at UW-Madison.
Hours
12-15 hours a week. Flexible hours (between 8-5 M-F) may include independent work off site.
Pay
$10/hour

Goals of position
The goal of the intern position is to:
a) assist the University Relations staff in reaching audiences in new and engaging ways, drawing upon the intern’s skills, knowledge and experience, and
b) provide the intern with the experience of working in a professional communications environment serving two complex institutions with statewide audiences.
UW Colleges is comprised of 13 freshman-sophomore campuses all over Wisconsin and UW Colleges Online that offer an associate degree in arts and science and prepare students of all ages and backgrounds for baccalaureate and professional programs.
The UW-Extension brings the benefits of the UW to everyone in the state through Cooperative Extension offices in 72 counties and three tribal nations, 12 Small Business Development Centers, Outreach and E-Learning programs delivered via the 26 UW System campuses and distance-learning channels, as well as through the statewide networks of Wisconsin Public Radio and Wisconsin Public Television.
The University Relations office is located at 432 N. Lake Street, just off State Street in Madison, WI.
