Wisconsin Environmental Initiative (WEI) is seeking a Communications Intern who possesses strong communication and organizational skills. This paid position offers the opportunity to gain a variety of experience through involvement in a wide range of communications and marketing activities.
WE are seeking a motivated college student or graduate student pursuing a degree in communications or journalism, with at least junior standing. Candidates must demonstrate strong attention to detail, organizational ability and strong oral and written communication skills. The ability to work independently is required. Duties include development of social media efforts, web maintenance, writing and editing for various print and digital marketing materials, and summarizing relevant news and information related to sustainable business practices. A demonstrated interest in environmental topics is desired.
Interns will have an opportunity to interact and work with environment leaders in business sustainability.
Responsibilities:
  • Developing, maintaining and updating website content using an online content management system
  • Assisting with the development and coordination of the program’s social media efforts
  • Assisting with media relations activities including responding to media inquiries, managing media lists, and media monitoring
  • Writing and editing communications materials, such as newsletters, news releases, fact sheets, email blasts and media pitches
  • Researching and summarizing relevant news and information
  • Managing administrative functions, such as member database and materials requests fulfillment
  • Performing other administrative tasks as requested

Internship starts October 3 and lasts the fall and spring semester. This is a part-time paid internship ($12 per hour). Hours are flexible and would range from 8-12 hours a week between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and events as needed.
