DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: Marketing Office, Slichter Hall, 625 Babcock Drive
COMPENSATION: $11.00/hr
DATES OF EMPLOYMENT: Beginning May 19, 2014
- This is year-round employment, including Summer 2014 through academic year 2014-15.
HOURS OF WORK:
- Part-time (10-15 hours/week; potential for up to 20 hours/week during summer)
- Most hours will be scheduled in the office Monday-Friday between 7:45 am–4:30 pm.
- Some evening and weekend hours may be required for project work such as special events, photo shoots, and/or focus groups.
- Availability during all of August preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Below is a list of summary job responsibilities:
- Collaborate with marketing staff on creative approaches for promotions, advertising strategies and social media campaigns to effectively reach many different audiences (UW students, high school students, parents, faculty/staff, conference guests, alumni, etc.).
- Assist with production of layout files for print and digital communications.
- Assist with website maintenance.
- Collaborate with Res Life and other Housing staff on web content for their hall or learning community.
- Perform administrative services, such as word processing, proofreading, fact checking, preparing packets for distribution, and other clerical help.
- Assist with other media as opportunities arise, including photography, video scripts, institutional social media sites, and other items.
- Assist with marketing research and analysis (quantitative and qualitative).
- Occasional project work related to planning and staffing special events.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
- Familiarity with marketing and public relations principles and strategies.
- Hands-on experience using desktop publishing and web editing software, preferably Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator; Microsoft Office (particularly Word and PowerPoint); and Adobe Dreamweaver.
- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, web design, and web content best practices.
- Willingness to try new things and problem-solve.
- Experience using social media websites and knowledge of best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently within deadlines.
- Attention to detail, excellent proofreading skills, and strong writing/editing skills.
- Enthusiasm for the University of Wisconsin–Madison and ability to promote the benefits of living on campus in University Housing.
- Satisfactory result of a confidential criminal background check is required.
