Monona Terrace Fall 2014/Spring 2015 Community Programs & Social Media Intern


DESCRIPTION
Monona Terrace Internship - Unpaid
Community Relations Department
20 Hours per week minimum
Fall 2014/Spring 2015

Interviews will take place in April 29 and May 1

General Responsibilities:
Assist with tasks in Community Relations Department at Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center. This department houses community events (approximately 70 per year), tours/educational outreach programs, and all public relations and social media activities for the facility.

Public Relations/Social Media:
•Take and upload pictures and video to social media sites
•Suggest posts on Facebook and Twitter, and post to Pinterest, Instagram, Google+, You Tube and LinkedIn
•Create content and post to Monona Terrace blog (Wordpress)
•Update social media calendar and schedule posts in Hootsuite
•Writing and distribution of press releases
•Media list updates
•Cataloguing of print media and photographs
•Assistance with the design of digital newsletters and flyers using Patron Mail
•Data entry for calendar listings
•Assist with writing of editorial articles and articles for the Monona Terrace blog
•Attend media interviews if desired

Community Events:
•Planning, logistical preparation, and attendance at community events, as well as post event follow up.
•Design of brochures, ads and flyers using Photoshop, Publisher or other design software
•Mailing list updates/Data entry – USI, Microsoft Access and Patron Mail software
•Survey distribution and compilation
•Assist with mailings
•Poster/Flyer and sign distribution

Tourism:
•Assist with the implementation of youth events on and off site
•Gather and report attendance data
•Support marketing efforts to increase visitor attendance at the facility
•Grant and corporate sponsorship research and proposals

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Working knowledge of most common social media applications, including Wordpress, and experience with ipods or ipads a plus. Experience working in Windows and Microsoft environments. Basic knowledge of event planning and ability to work effectively with clients, fellow employees, sponsors, entertainers and the general public in a courteous and professional manner. The ability to perform duties effectively and efficiently, and be reliable with regard to office hours and attendance. Attention to detail is also necessary. Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner both orally and in written word, and work independently, yet in a team environment. Ability to lift 25-50 lbs. occasionally, stand or walk for long periods of time and maintain adequate attendance.

Make-A-Wish Wisconsin
Madison Regional Office Internship • Summer/Fall 2014

POSITION SUMMARY: Supports the Regional Director and Coordinator with planning, promoting and executing a variety of fundraising events. Assists with volunteer coordination and wish planning activities. Performs general office duties.

PRIMARY GOALS:
• Develops a broad understanding of nonprofit operations.
• Gains real-life experience in special event administration, development and communications.
• Creates a lasting connection between the Make-A-Wish® mission and future experiences.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Supports Kids for Wish Kids® program and assists with external fundraising events.
• Fosters volunteerism and fundraising by UW-Madison student groups.
• Performs a variety of general office tasks and assists with the wish coordination process.
• Represents Make-A-Wish® Wisconsin at events, promotions and speaking engagements as appropriate.
• Conducts internet research and other inquiries to help identify new fundraising opportunities.
• Gains familiarity with Raiser's Edge donor database; performs occasional data entry and search functions.
• Assists with writing, editing and distributing press releases, website postings and newsletter articles.
• Contacts wish families about various wish enhancements and speaking opportunities.
• Schedules volunteers for events, promotions and presentations.
• Aids in the recognition and stewardship of sponsors and donors.
• Assists with planning of Walk & Run for Wishes held September 14, 2014:
• Solicits and secures in-kind donations; requests/compares bids and schedules vendors.
• Creates and administers various aspects of communication strategy.
• Contacts and schedules volunteers for various duties.
•Promotes growth in team participation and encourages team fundraising initiatives.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Sophomore standing or higher; currently enrolled in a college or university pursuing a degree in Marketing, Nonprofit Management/Leadership, Public Relations, Communications or related field with a minimum GPA of 3.00/4.00.
2. Organized, detailed-oriented, capable of managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.
3. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
4. Outgoing and able to build rapport with diverse populations.
5. Previous experience with special events and history of volunteerism preferred.
6. Solid experience in Microsoft Office Suite.
7. Access to an automobile essential.
8. Familiarity with the greater Madison area beneficial.

TIME REQUIREMENTS:
1. Student must be able to work a consistent schedule during normal office hours (9:00am to 5:30pm). A minimum of 10-15 hours per week for a duration of 10 weeks (or more) is required. Student and Regional Director will work together to determine hours.
2. The number of hours per week will vary due to event requirements and the amount of responsibility assumed.
3. The duration of the internship is negotiable. Ideal candidates will be available May 27 to September 26; extension through late December is desirable.
4. Attendance at evening and weekend meetings and events may be necessary.

COMPENSATION:
1. This is a volunteer position. To enable the receipt of college credits, Make-A-Wish Wisconsin will work with you to meet your school’s requirements.
2. A stipend will be paid upon the satisfactory completion of the internship and will be based on the number of hours completed. A minimum of 100 hours is required to earn a $500 stipend.
3. All work-related expenses incurred will be reimbursed.

Food Export Midwest State Export Intern



Location: Division of Agricultural Development, International Marketing, Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, 2811 Agriculture Drive, Madison, WI 53718-6777.
Hours per week: 15 to 20 hours during the school year; 30-40 hours during the summer and school breaks. This is a paid position under contract from May 2014 to December 2014, with the option of continuing into 2015.
Rate of Pay: $10.00-$16.00 per hour depending on experience.
Brief Description: The position is located in the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP), Division of Agricultural Development. The chosen candidate will contract directly with Food Export Midwest to be paid. The chosen candidate must be enrolled as a student.
Job Duties: This position is responsible for administrative and program support for Food Export Midwest projects undertaken by the international staff of the Division of Agricultural Development. Primary responsibilities include communicating with Wisconsin companies via email and telephone, data management, and event management:
1. Food Export Midwest and International Marketing Database maintenance, which includes calling companies to get current contact information, updating 2 databases with the correct information
2. Assist international staff with executing Food Export Midwest activities which includes:
  • Emailing and calling US companies to inform of events, activities and export programs.
  • Develop recruitment emails and flyers, signage for seminars, participation forms for activities, etc.
  • Assist in organizing seminars (recruitment, promotion, seminar registration, and follow up)
  • Schedule meetings for buyers’ missions to Wisconsin, etc.
  • Gather results and evaluation forms from each activity
  • Write success stories of companies exporting
3. Other duties may be assigned as necessary, for example writing reports on various sectors of the food and feed industries for Food Export Midwest.

Book Festival Intern

Madison Public Library, with the support of the Madison Public Library Foundation, will host the 12th annual Wisconsin Book Festival in October 2014. The festival incorporates literature, spoken word, art, and performance. It is a four-day event in which local literary artists mix with nationally-acclaimed authors to create a unique event full of free community programs. Festival activities will be hosted at library facilities, particularly the new Central Library. An anticipated audience of 10,000 people will attend 65 programs throughout the year, in addition to the October 16-19 festival.

The foundation is currently looking for an outgoing, creative intern to join our small office team for the upcoming semester. This position generally runs two semesters of the university school year (summer, fall). The intern will work closely with the Festival Coordinator, the foundation office, and the library’s marketing manager to plan, coordinate, and execute promotional and fundraising activities for the festival and related author events.

The intern has the opportunity to gain valuable event management, and marketing and public relations experience while helping to boost the profile of the beloved annual festival. Internship may be taken for credit at the initiative of the intern at his or her respective college or university.
Duties of the Position Include
  • Writing press releases, media advisories, and articles

Special Events Intern

Madison Parks Fall Internship

The City of Madison Parks Division manages 260 parks and over 6000 acres of land and includes various departments including: recreation services, maintenance, four golf courses, Olbrich Botanical Gardens, Warner Park Community Recreation Center, Goodman Pool, facilities, conservation, forestry, cemetery, planning, and administrative staff.

The Parks Division is currently recruiting 2014 fall semester interns in various departments.

Special Events Intern: The intern will assist in planning and coordination of various special events and programs.

Volunteer Management Intern: The intern will assist with developing a comprehensive Parks volunteer program including recruitment, coordinating volunteer days, and gain overall understanding of volunteer management.

CSW Communications Intern

This Communications Intern will support communications efforts, particularly social media, for Community Shares of Wisconsin (CSW).

Advertising Internship


Cramer-Krasselt is one of the fastest growing agencies in the country, with billings now exceeding $1 billion. The agency has quadrupled its billings within the last decade.

The media internship is a part-time paid position in C-K’s Milwaukee office in the Third Ward which exposes candidates to the media planning, buying and stewardship process through hands-on involvement and observation. Summer Internship at Special Olympics Wisconsin



DESCRIPTION: 
This unpaid internship position will allow students to assist Special Olympics Wisconsin’s (SOWI) Communications staff at the Headquarters office in working with the public, key constituents, and media. SOWI provides year-round sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. This position requires 10-15 hours of work per week, with plenty of opportunities to build your portfolio. Internships are offered in the fall, spring, and summer. 
QUALIFICATIONS: 
Must have major in Communications, Marketing, PR, English or related field 
Excellent writing and proofreading skills, including knowledge of writing news releases and/or feature articles 
Should be comfortable conducting interviews 
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite 
Effective time management skills 
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines 
Willingness to work 1-2 weekend events 
Must be a current student (undergraduate or graduate), eligible to receive college credit for internship. 
Valid Driver’s license 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 
Abide by the SOWI Guiding Values 
Assist with State Games Public Relations: 
o Writing news releases 
o Writing 15, 30 & 60-second PSAs for statewide radio and TV stations 
o Writing media advisories 
Assist with sorting and filing electronic news clippings 
Update media lists 
Write/edit articles for newsletters and feature articles 
Occasional clerical projects including filing, organizing, phone calling or errand running 
Other duties as assigned by Director of Communications and Marketing & Communications Assistant.

The Communications Intern will work under the supervision of the Director of Communications and Marketing & Communications Assistant. The Wisconsin Union is hiring five student interns to help develop and coordinate the Willis L. Jones Leadership Center at the Wisconsin Union.
JLC Intern Responsibilities
  • Assist the Leadership Program Director with program development, implementation and expansion of the JLC programs including the Empower Leadership Series, i.e. workshops; the Engage Leadership Series, i.e. speakers; and the Explore Leadership Series, i.e. leadership conference participation grants.
  • Identify and develop both human and material resources that will facilitate development of the JLC and the associated programs and services.
  • Develop working relationships with campus partners, faculty members, administrators, student services staff, student organizations and campus agencies.
  • Establish assessment tools and practices for the JLC.
  • Develop and maintain, in collaboration with the Wisconsin Union Marketing Department, the JLC webpage and social media outreach.
  • Develop and enact an on-going recruitment plan to attract participants to JLC sponsored events which will include actively conducting in-person outreach, hosting information sessions and on-going promotion of the JLC.
  • Meet with students to discuss their leadership development needs and interests.
  • Assist in the coordination and facilitation of the Empower Leadership Series workshops.
  • Promote and coordinate the application process for the Explore Leadership Series scholarships.
  • Provide office coverage for the Memorial Union Program Office during business hours.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as necessary.

  • Hourly student appointment through the ’14 -‘15 academic year; 10/hours/week, negotiable
