Gathering Waters Conservancy, a non-profit conservation organization based in Madison, WI, maintains a Community Engagement Internship to help the organization advance its mission to help people protect the places that make Wisconsin special. This is an unpaid internship that requires course credit and a weekly commitment of ~10 hours. The position provides a student with an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the development of strategies, messages, and materials to help a nonprofit organization communicate the impact of its work and deepen its connection with the community it serves.
Responsibilities and opportunities of the position include:
- Assisting in the development of outreach strategies to advance our mission
- Advancing our social media presence and effectiveness
- Researching and drafting conservation stories that communicate the impact of land protection, through blog posts, video production, and print media
- Special projects specific to the intern’s skills and interests (e.g. organizing a photo contest, exploring video storytelling, developing media strategies, etc.)
Qualifications:
- An appreciation for land and natural resource conservation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with social media
- Relevant coursework to inform the responsibilities described herein
- Upper-class undergraduates and graduate students preferred
