Position/Internship Description
Position Summary
Families and Schools Together, Inc. is a nonprofit agency whose mission is to disseminate FAST®, an evidence-based program which uses research-based activities to empower parents and strengthen the relationship between families, schools, and the community. We are currently hiring a Communications Intern, with strong communications and organizational skills to work for us for three months from November through the end of January. Top candidates will express an interest in gaining professional nonprofit marketing communications experience supporting a wide range of services including: assembling marketing materials, managing information for the contact database, e-mail and website content development, social media utilization, event planning support, marketing operations support to help communicate Families and Schools Together, Inc.’s mission.
Responsibilities
- Organize marketing files and materials. Coordinate files and information to/from outside writers, designers, and marketing partners.
- Assist in updating and maintaining the contact management database.
- Organize and maintain online storage for content and images (e.g., photos, graphics) on server in timely fashion.
- Assist in development of marketing and promotional materials, ability to occasionally write creative content for social networking presence.
- Answer the telephone and direct calls
- Assist with events planning such as conference preparation and execution of support tasks as assigned, including helping with materials gathering, setup and shipping.
- Assist with final preparation of marketing messages by proofreading, editing, and posting online.
Qualifications
- Junior or senior level college student pursuing a degree in communications, public relations, advertising, journalism or marketing; or recent graduate.
- Motivated, able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- 20-25 hours per week, between the hours of 8am and 5pm. Available and willing to work during non-holiday days from Thanksgiving through New Year’s holiday.
- Excellent interpersonal communications skills in verbal and written form.
- Organized and efficient, able to pay attention to detail.
- Proficiency using MS Office programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Dependable, prioritizes work appropriately, able to manage time according to project specific deadlines and handle multiple projects concurrently.
- Adaptable, flexible and proactive in taking on assignments and responsibilities, and willingness to learn.
- Team oriented and focused on success of the whole.
- Experienced in utilizing internet technologies and social media for business communications, a plus.
- Proficiency in creating PDF files, utilizing Adobe Acrobat and Photoshop or equivalent.
- Some experience with design elements or programs; creating and handling documents and images a plus.
