As a senior copywriter for the Wisconsin Alumni Association, you’ll use your talents for finding the perfect words to connect with alumni, students, fans and friends of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Our nonprofit organization in Madison is seeking a full-time writer who can cook up creative concepts for high-impact, direct marketing communications in print and new media. You’ll collaborate with a great team in creative endeavor as you craft copy that is unexpected, fun, engaging and effective.
Job Purpose: The senior copywriter is responsible for writing and concepting high-impact marketing projects for the Wisconsin Alumni Association (WAA). This position produces strategic direct-marketing communications targeted to UW-Madison alumni, students, faculty and friends.
Organizational Relationship: Supervised by — Creative Director
Specific Functions and Responsibilities:
- Cook up creative concepts for marketing communications that are welded to the WAA brand.
- Craft copy that is unexpected, fun, engaging and effective in encouraging alumni interaction for multiple distribution platforms: print, Web and new media (includes advertising, direct mail, e-mail, invitations).
- Proof and edit WAA’s marketing communications.
- Act as editor of online e-newsletter publications (includes content, writing, review, incorporating campus partners, measuring results through Web stats and surveys).
- Collaborate with teams in the push/pull of creative endeavor.

Skills, Training and Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, advertising, marketing or journalism.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- 5+ years of writing experience in an advertising or marketing environment.
- Proven portfolio of results-driven marketing or advertising pieces.
- Excellent computer skills, including Word, InDesign and InCopy
- Experience with proofing in AP Style.
- Desire to seek out consumer insights to strengthen campaigns.
- Understanding of marketing concepts.
- Ability to juggle multiple priorities while hitting tight deadlines.
- A passion for writing and for UW-Madison.
