WORT FM News and Public Affairs Internship 2013
Title: News and Public Affairs Assistant
Term: May 2013 - May 2014 (1 year minimum preferred)
Hours: 12-15 hours/week
Schedule: 11am-2pm Weekdays
Description: Support the production of "A Public Affair", a daily hour-long call-in talk program on WORT 89.9 FM. A Public Affair airs weekdays from 12-1pm. There are 7 rotating hosts for the program. The program focuses on current events and social issues. Guests include local authors, scholars, and newsmakers, as well as national and international figures.
Duties:
1. Solicit ideas from hosts for guests and topics. Research them as needed.
2. Book guests for the program, in coordination with hosts and News Director.
3. Coordinate logistics for daily program, including arranging phone calls, skype, and in studio appearances.
4. Prepare backgrounders and guest bios for hosts. Request books and materials as needed.
5. Update the online program calendar with daily booking info.
6. Promote the program via daily social media posts.
7. Update the online archive with guest and topic information daily.
8. Assist in Pledge Drive preparation.
9. Train in the operation of sound board and act as substitute engineer as needed.
10. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
1. You must be eligible for Work-study. Otherwise, position is offered as unpaid internship.
2. You must follow news and current events
3. You must be computer savvy and possess good online research skills
4. You must be able to diplomatically yet assertively communicate with a diversity of hosts and guests
5. You must be well-organized, good with details, and have tenacious follow-through on assignments
