The Babcock Institute for International Dairy Research and Development is looking for a dependable, motivated student with excellent organizational skills to join our team. We need someone to help our staff members with daily tasks and program preparation. Your help will be needed to prepare for the Institute’s course and booth at World Dairy Expo as well as other events and for the maintenance of the Institutes international publication sales.

Requirements:
  • Approx. 10 hours/week during school semesters
  • Availability up to 40 hours/week during summer
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, proficient typing skills, good organizational skills

Duties:
  • Assisting the staff of the Babcock Institute with the planning and logistics of domestic and international dairy training programs
  • Preparing visitor packets, speaker handouts, nametags, etc.
  • Ordering meals, reserving conference rooms, hotel rooms, bus transportation, etc.
  • Escorting international visitors both on and off campus
  • Creating/Updating brochures, program materials, displays and posters
  • Preparing publications for international and domestic shipping
  • Maintaining mailing lists and inventory of publications
  • Duplicating publications
  • Corresponding via e-mail and telephone with customers, officials, professors, etc.
Web skills and knowledge of QuickBooks would be a plus, but not required--training will be provided. Other duties as assigned.

If you are the right fit for this job, you are a self starter with good communication and people skills, you know or are able to learn formatting and accounting software, and you are comfortable using the Internet and telephone to accomplish tasks. A passion for topics surrounding the international dairy industry would make your job more rewarding. You must be a UW student to qualify for this job. Conveniently located in the Animal Sciences Building with much flexibility in work hour scheduling. Great job for a driven student.

Pay starts at $9.00 with the possibility of increasing after a training and probationary period. Marketing Assistant

Dates of Employment: Beginning May 20, 2013. This is a year round appointment, including Summer 2013 and academic year 2013-14.
 
Hours:
-Part-time (10-15 hours/week; potential up to 20 hours/week during summer)
-Most hours on Monday-Friday between 7:45am-4:30pm
-Some evening and weekend hours may be required for project work such as special events, photo shoots, and/or focus groups

Responsibilities:
-Collaborate with marketing staff on creative approaches for promotions, advertising strategies and social media campaigns to effectively reach many different audiences
-Assist with design and production of layout files for print and digital communications.
-Assist with website maintenance.
-Assist with photography and video projects.
-Perform administrative services and other clerical help.
-Write content including feature articles, video scripts, blog posts, and press releases and assist with maintaining institutional sites on Facebook and Twitter, and other media as opportunities arise.
-Assist with marketing research and analysis (quantitative and qualitative).
-Collaborate with Res Life and other Housing staff on web content for their hall or learning community.
-Occasional project work related to planning and staffing special events.

Qualifications:
-Familiarity with principles of design (print and web), marketing, and public relations.
-Hands-on experience using desktop publishing software, preferably Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator; Microsoft Office (particularly Word and PowerPoint); and Adobe Dreamweaver (or HTML).

Wisconsin Video Services is looking for part time student employees for the 2013-2014 academic year and beyond. We cover all 23 Varsity Sports on campus providing video content for teams, coaches, UWBADGERS.com and the University.
Responsibilities Include (Not Limited To)

-Assisting Video Services staff during varsity sports events
-Assisting with video related tasks for football practices and game days
-Camera equipment setup, breakdown, and operation
-Video digitization
-Video editing using Adobe Premiere
-Video dubbing
-DVD duplication
-Web Stream athletic events and interviews
-Create highlight and informational videos

Preferred Skills (Not Required)

-Any video/camera experience
-Graphic software knowledge and experience (Adobe After Effects, Photoshop)
-Non-linear editing experience (Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, Avid)
-Basic knowledge of sports

News and Public Affairs Assistant

WORT FM News and Public Affairs Internship 2013
Title: News and Public Affairs Assistant
Term: May 2013 - May 2014 (1 year minimum preferred)
Hours: 12-15 hours/week
Schedule: 11am-2pm Weekdays
Description: Support the production of "A Public Affair", a daily hour-long call-in talk program on WORT 89.9 FM. A Public Affair airs weekdays from 12-1pm. There are 7 rotating hosts for the program. The program focuses on current events and social issues. Guests include local authors, scholars, and newsmakers, as well as national and international figures.
Duties:
1. Solicit ideas from hosts for guests and topics. Research them as needed.
2. Book guests for the program, in coordination with hosts and News Director.
3. Coordinate logistics for daily program, including arranging phone calls, skype, and in studio appearances.
4. Prepare backgrounders and guest bios for hosts. Request books and materials as needed.
5. Update the online program calendar with daily booking info.
6. Promote the program via daily social media posts.
7. Update the online archive with guest and topic information daily.
8. Assist in Pledge Drive preparation.
9. Train in the operation of sound board and act as substitute engineer as needed.
10. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
1. You must be eligible for Work-study. Otherwise, position is offered as unpaid internship.

Communications Internship: Waisman Center


The Waisman Center is an independent center within the University of Wisconsin-Madison that is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about human development, developmental disabilities and neurodegenerative diseases throughout the lifespan.  One of only 15 centers of its kind in the United States, the Waisman Center encompasses labs for biomedical and behavioral research, a brain imaging center and a clinical biomanufacturing facility. In addition to its research efforts, the Waisman Center offers numerous clinical, educational and outreach services to children and adults with developmental disabilities and neurodegenerative diseases and their families. 

Qualifications 
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
•  Ability to engage and interact with a diverse clientele (both on campus and the external community) 
• Writing experience geared toward a broad audience 
• Events preparation in a planning and customer service capacity 
• Software experience (Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite) 
We seek an intern whose career focus is in the field(s) of Communications, Marketing and/or Journalism. Our ideal 
candidate will display initiative and the ability to multi-task, both within a group setting and independently, on a 
range of projects related to the Waisman Center’s mission. 

Principal Duties 

• Drafting content for print and web feature stories 
• Staffing community outreach events as a representative of the Waisman Center 
• Administrative support related to large, long-term projects 
• Occasional nights and weekends may be required for community outreach and fundraising events This position will contribute and provide support to Waisman Center Communications through disseminating and 
promoting information to build public awareness of the Waisman Center’s research, clinical and outreach programs.
