The Alliant Energy Center Marketing Department in Madison Wisconsin has an upcoming opportunity for a Marketing and Public Relations Intern working 15-20 hours per week, depending on project assignments and workloads. Hourly pay is $14.43 per hour. This position works under direct supervision, guidance and direction of the Asst. Center Manager, Sales & Marketing.
This Marketing Assistant/Public Relations Intern position will begin work in May 2012 and work until the summer of 2013. Initial activities will be related to customer event research, customer/media database management and photo image library administration. As confidence and event business knowledge grows the intern will contact customers directly and interview them for the AEC e-Newsletter, web site postings and trade publication information. Eventually the intern will contact media directly to provide weekly radio, newspaper and trade publication stories as well as testimonials about Alliant Energy Center and our customer's’ upcoming events.
Primary position responsibilities include, writing articles for the AEC monthly e-newsletter and maintaining/writing content for the AEC website and Social Media outlets. Other duties include writing press releases as directed, verifying customer database accuracy, updating media contact lists, highlighting weekly event information for media release and publication, acquiring and organizing event photos in digital format-distributing event photos for media, customer and trade publications as needed.
A well-qualified candidate will have outstanding people skills, demonstrate excellent written and verbal communications skills, possess a basic understanding of web editing skills and software, understand sales and marketing principles, be comfortable in a public speaking capacity and be proficient conducting interviews and writing articles. Basic computer skills with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Outlook are required. Photography skills, proficient knowledge of web editing software and additional computer training are a plus.
Desired Education: A Junior or Senior College level student with a major in Journalism, Business/Marketing, Communication Arts or Related fields.
