InternshipHealth Literacy Wisconsin (HLW), a division of Wisconsin Literacy, Inc., seeks an Event Planning/Public Relations Intern to assist with event planning and promotion for the 2013 Wisconsin Health Literacy Summit on April 9-10, 2013 in Madison, Wisconsin. This nationally recognized event targets professionals from the fields of health care, adult literacy and public health. The summit is co- sponsored by the Wisconsin Research and Education Network (WREN) in the UW Department of Family Medicine.
The Event Planning/Public Relations Intern will assist the agency with a wide variety of tasks related to event planning and promotion, including: conference logistics, menu planning, volunteer recruitment and management, event promotion, registration, public relations and social media. The intern will have some flexibility to shape his or her experience, based on career interests, academic program of study, and the needs of the agency.
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate or graduate student interested in event planning, mass communications, public relations or related fields
- Detail-oriented
- Able to work independently
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Interest in, or experience with, health care, health literacy and/or health communication is preferred
- Able to commit to the full length of internship, as outlined below
Location: 211 S. Paterson St., Suite 260, Madison, WI
Dates: October 1, 2012 – April 30, 2013 (start date is flexible)
Schedule: 8-10 hours/week. The Intern must be available for up to 15 hours per week the first two weeks of April 2013 and must be available all day on Monday, April 8, Tuesday, April 9 and Wednesday, April 10, 2013.
Salary: This is an unpaid position, but we are willing to work with your program to arrange academic credit.
