Internship with the Assembly Democrats

Internships Available with Assembly Democrats

Several Democratic Assembly member offices are currently looking for students interested in interning in the State Capitol during the upcoming semester. These internships are unpaid but will provide valuable political and communications experience and helpful insight into state government. Interns will also have the opportunity to meet Assembly leadership and build a network in Madison politics.

Some of the tasks associated with a Democratic Assembly internship are:

Press – Includes tracking local media sources for references to state and local politics of interest as well as preparing press releases and editorials.

Constituency Work and Outreach – Consists of answering questions sent in by individuals, writing constituent letters, and helping to find resolutions to their problems through legislation or action. Outreach includes contacting constituents with the Representative’s congratulations on various accomplishments and keeping the legislator’s name out there in the district, which is an extremely crucial job.

Data Entry – Working with our computer database to enter incoming constituent contacts and track constituent opinions.

Legislative Research – Researching current and future bills. We are looking for candidates who can dedicate at least 8 hours a week to the internship, so we can assign meaningful and worthwhile projects. The hours most offices will need help are during working hours Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

To apply for an internship with Assembly Democrats, please submit the attached intern application and your resume to Annika.Petty@legis.wisconsin.gov. Please indicate on your application if there is a specific type of office that would best meet your interests. Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.
