This internship supports communications efforts- particularly social media training for nonprofits- for The Big Share, a single-day fundraising project of Community Shares of Wisconsin (CSW) (takes place on March 1, 2016). Interns will build professional skills, while learning how online communications support the work of nonprofit organizations. First-time interns with a strong willingness to learn and grow are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated skill with social media platforms, marketing or web analytics
  • Interest in local nonprofit organizations and how social media tools can advance their causes
  • Interest in developing communication and interpersonal skills that will serve as a foundation for professional success
  • Ability to stay organized, meet deadlines and seek guidance as needed
  • Desire to build capacity in the management of multiple projects simultaneously
Expectations
  • Work closely with supervisor, take direction, learn and adapt quickly and apply constructive feedback to future work
  • Communicate effectively with a diverse community of CSW staff and interns, board members, member nonprofits, campaign sites and donors
  • Function effectively in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing responsibilities
  • Participate in a team environment and stay positive during times of stress
Duties
  • With direction from CSW staff, learn best practices for engaging on social media as the representative of a nonprofit organization
  • Under leadership of CSW, assist with the development and presentation of trainings to the CSW members and offer one-on-one support leading up to The Big Share
  • Help members develop plan to update social media with fresh content related to The Big Share
  • Learn to use social media analytics and offer suggestions based on your analysis
  • Regularly scan Facebook/Twitter content of member groups for content to share
  • Help edit material to ensure appropriate content and length
  • Work effectively with Membership Coordinator and follow CSW's Social Media Plan
Hours: 8-12 hours/week (September-May with possibility to continue in Summer)
