Design and produce electronic art and traditional camera-ready art for a variety of print materials including brochures, posters, signs, flyers, and newspaper ads (web experience a plus). The communications and outreach student intern will be responsible for devising an updated format for the Wisconsin Hoofer’s long-running newsletter, ‘Hoofprints.’ The intern will be responsible for writing stories of interest on Hoofers Clubs and on individual hoofers, editing content within the newsletter, and distributing it to our alumni network (of approximately 5,000). Hoofprints is sent out on a quarterly basis. The intern will work closely with the Hoofer leadership and advisors at the Wisconsin Union to identify topics for stories and to ensure that Hoofprints is consistent with the Hoofers’ brand. Other duties related to Hoofers or outdoor recreation communication/outreach may be assigned as needed. This position will report to the Outdoor Recreation Manager, Joe Webb.
This position will provide an out-of-class learning opportunity, professional-level portfolio material, and valuable professional work experience. The ideal candidate will commit to this project for one calendar year, through December 2013.
 
REQUIRED SKILLS
Undergraduate or graduate students currently enrolled in the University of Wisconsin-Madison communications-related programs are preferred, but all qualified candidates are welcome to apply. Summer 2012 availability preferred.
The ideal candidate will have an understanding of basic design principles, Adobe Photoshop, marketing, and a well developed and approachable writing style. Web design or Adobe Dreamweaver experience preferred.
 
HIRING CONDITIONS
The intern will receive the $500 stipend at the end of the semester and will be paid during the summer on a bi-weekly basis.

Intern-Media Relations - Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club (Milwaukee, WI)

Summary

Internship program begins in January with its conclusion correlating with the end of the 2013 Brewers season. This position will be directly involved with the media activities involving the club during the 2013 season.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist with production of various game day notes and statistical materials
• Support the Media Relations department with various Brewers Media events
• Assist with the daily clippings and oversee the club’s fan mail correspondence
• Assist with the production and  of press credentials for the media
• Responsible for several game day operations before, during, and after home games
• Write occasional feature stories for various Brewers publications
• Be able and willing to assist with additional duties not listed above that may arise

Qualifications/Education Requirements
• Qualified candidates must have strong communication, writing, analytical and organizational skills;
• Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and able to earn college credit.  Instructor and student must decide upon the number of credits.

Computer Skills
To perform the job successfully, an individual should have intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft office software and Adobe InDesign.   

Work Hours
Candidates are expected to work a minimum of 30 hours per week. Candidate should be capable of working extended hours such as overtime, nights, and weekends, especially during home games.

Member Relations Intern

Hours Per Week: 10 – 15

Work Schedule:  Flexible, established around class schedule and Union special event dates.

Duties: This intern will work closely with the Member Relations Coordinator on donor cultivation and stewardship activities:
  • Special event planning and preparation, and day-of support
  • Stewardship (“Thank you”) activities as needed
  • Authoring regular updates and short articles for publication
  • Fundraising material copy writing
  • Proofreading ads, letters, brochures and other development materials
  • Light record keeping, RSVP processing and data entry
  • Other duties as needed


Required Skills: Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, knowledge of and/or interest in marketing and promotions, strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.

Candidates need to possess the ability to work independently and demonstrate strong timeline management skills.

An interest in supporting and assisting the Wisconsin Union in the restoration and renovation of the historic Memorial Union. Member Relations efforts help support the financial needs of the project and are important for the longevity and quality of the Union’s services to its members.

A desire to learn about and contribute to the growth and development of the Wisconsin Union as part of the mission of the University as a whole.
